Problems that can cause a Toilet to leak in your home

8/17/2021 (Permalink)

There are several things that can go wrong with your toilet to cause it to leak water onto your bathroom floor. Plumbers tend to look at four main issues that cause the toilet to leak.

1) Bolts that have become loose.

If you see water at the base of the toilet the first thing you will need to look at is to see if the bolts around the toilet are lose. try tightening these bolts before calling a plumber.

2) A valve is Broken.

Another problem that can happen to cause a leaking toilet is a shut off valve that is broken. Plumbers can replace a bad valve so that a water damage specialist does not need to replace the walls and flooring when a faulty valve releases to much water.

3) A Faulty Gasket.

The gasket is the seal that holds the toilet in place and also keeps water from leaking onto the floor. A plumber can help replace a broken or dry gasket.

4) Toilet Bowl is Cracked.

Lastly if the toilet bowl is cracked there is a good chance that water will leak out. It can be hard to determine the source if you can't see the crack.

If your toilet experiences a leak where large amounts of water damage the floors and walls please call SERVPRO of Bullitt & N. Nelson Counties.
