Mildew and mold are fungi that come about as a result of unchecked moisture. Both types of fungi grow in a wide range of temperatures, some especially thrive at higher temperatures. Either of these types of fungi can cause damage in your home or business, as well as cause health concerns.

While mildew is considered to be "early-stage mold" that causes less damage to your home and your health, it should still be taken seriously. It’s important to remove mildew as quickly as possible in order to prevent adverse health effects and/or cosmetic damage to your home.

Mold on the other hand can cause minor to severe health issues. Things like the species, length of exposure, and whether or not a person has any pre-existing conditions, such as asthma or allergies determine the type of health issues mold can cause. If you are smelling an earthy, musty smell in your home or experiencing cold or flu like symptoms for an extended amount of time, mold may be the culprit, it’s important to get in touch with your doctor and contact a qualified mold remediation specialist; like SERVPRO.®
